Welding standard for steel bar grating

Feb 14, 2022

Steel gratings are generally processed into shapes of various sizes according to the needs of users. The spacing of the load flat steel and the spacing of the cross bars can be determined by the supplier and the buyer according to the design requirements. For industrial platforms, it is recommended that the distance between the loaded flat bars should not be greater than 40mm, and the distance between the cross bars should not be greater than 165mm. The welding of steel grating is preferably by pressure resistance welding, or arc welding. At each intersection of the load flat steel and the cross bar, it should be fixed by welding, riveting or pressure locking.

At the end of the load flat steel, the flat steel of the same specification as the load flat steel should be used for hemming. In special occasions, the section steel can be used or the edge plate can be directly wrapped, but the cross-sectional area of the wrapping plate shall not be smaller than that of the loaded flat steel. The edging adopts single-sided fillet welding with a welding height not less than the thickness of the loaded flat steel, and the length of the weld shall not be less than 4 times the thickness of the loaded flat steel.

In the case that the edging plate does not bear the load, it is allowed to weld 4 loaded flat steels at one place, but the distance shall not be greater than 180mm. When the edging plate is under load, interval welding is not allowed and must be fully welded. The end plates of stair treads must be fully welded on one side. The edging plate in the same direction as the load flat steel must be welded with each cross bar.

Steel grating series 1 welds one every five; series 2 welds one every four; series 3 welds one every third. The flat steel with different specifications from the steel grating flat steel can be used for edging, or the edging with angle steel, channel steel, square tube, etc. The weld is a single-sided fillet weld of not less than 3mm, and the length of the weld is 20mm.

The edging adopts single-sided fillet welding with a welding height not less than the thickness of the bearing flat steel, and the length of the weld shall not be less than 4 times the thickness of the bearing flat steel.

In the case that the edging plate does not bear the load, it is allowed to weld 4 load-bearing flat steels at one place, but the distance shall not be greater than 150mm.

Interval welding is not allowed when the edging plate is under load. The edging plate in the same direction as the bearing flat steel must be welded with each cross bar.

The end plates of stair treads shall be fully welded on at least one side. The welding of pressure welded steel grating and plug-in steel grating is as follows:
The incisions and openings in the steel grating are equal to or larger than 180mm, and should be treated with hemming. The load flat steel of the steel grating can be flat flat steel, I-shaped flat steel or slitting strip steel. The load flat steel of the steel grating can have a tooth profile to increase the anti-slip force of the steel grating. The minimum width of the steel grating on the tooth profile size platform shall not be less than 300mm.
